5 ways to make healthy choices for the busy mom

Today I want to talk about the importance of making healthy choices when you're a mom. I know sometimes, at least for me, at the end of the day the last thing I feel like doing is cooking a healthy meal. I mean it's exhausting chasing after a baby all day. 

But… it's crucial to fuel up with the good stuff and to make sure we’re moving our bodies as well.

I find that when I just scarf down a granola bar or a pb&j I'm tired like 45 minutes later.

Jack only naps for 30-40 minutes at a time so my “alone time” is usually spent trying to shower, do dishes, throw in laundry, or sit in silence for a minute to myself. Sometimes I completely forget to eat and then when starvation mode hits I have to find something quick and easy to eat while chasing after a crawling baby (who is fast as hell btw). On top of all that I am nursing so I NEEEED to keep up with healthy eating and water drinking so my little bear gets all he needs from me. 

Back when I was coaching private clients this was one of their biggest struggles, how to make healthy choices while leading a busy life.

As moms we are just as busy as a CEO of a company.

Here's 5 things you can do to keep it healthy and be on the go:

  1. Buy healthy snacks that are already individually packaged for grab and go eating. I like buying these from Trader Joes. 
  2. Always have fresh fruit on hand. Even if you have to go to Whole Foods and buy the already sliced fruit like you are just the fanciest chick there is. Already cut fruit was made for moms!

  3. Start giving your kids fresh whole foods, like from the earth not the store. This gives you the opportunity to eat what they eat and vice versa. A healthy mom makes healthy babies.

  4. Make sure you have lots of water on hand. I love to rock a super cute water bottle wherever I go so I make sure I'm staying hydrated, and when I feel hungry I know it's not just thirst. I really love this water bottle.

  5. Incorporate exercise. Bust a few squats out when you’re at the changing table. Do a few push-ups against the kitchen counter. Do some sit-ups when you're on the floor playing. There's always something you can do while trying to chase after your little. I go to a FIT4MOM Stroller Strides class 4-5 days a week to keep me moving and sane.
