Normalize Breastfeeding

Can we all just take a moment and recognize how freaking normal it is to breastfeed? I mean seriously I just die inside when people are so freaked out by it.

Let’s get one thing straight first, I am all for breastfeeding but I am not one of those moms that pops a bare boob in public. If you are please take no offense I just honestly feel like these A cups prefer to hide under their nursing cover.

Anyways, back to my rant, JK, but really though…

I love breastfeeding I think it’s one of the most amazing things that we can do as women. It’s like your spouse may go to work all day and “bust his ass” but you kept a human being alive all day with your boobs so let’s be real.

Breastfeeding creates this beautiful bond between you and your child that can bring any mom to tears when she thinks about how special that is.

So why would or should we feel uncomfortable if we want to feed our baby in public. Chances are that person who is “freaked out” was breastfed, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s natural and beautiful.

Most women breastfeed in public because they have to not because they really want to. Getting out of the house in the weeks and months following birth is so incredibly important for a woman. Getting out of the house helps with depression and anxiety. Being stuck inside nursing all day with a new baby running on little sleep can fuck with you, to put it lightly.

Also your breasts can become engorged and sore if you don’t express the milk. Why the hell should we have to be in pain when we can easily feed our baby in a public space and relieve that pressure?

Feeding your baby is the most natural thing you can do. So why does it make people so uncomfortable? Is it because it’s a boob and that can be seen as sexual? Let me tell you, there is nothing sexual about it. You see more boobs walking around at the beach or the mall then you do when a woman is breastfeeding. I don’t know of any mama friends of mine that get totally naked and take their top and bra off in public (or ever) to breastfeed.

I am proud to be one of those “crazy” pro breastfeeding in public mamas. If you feel uncomfortable please know it’s never our intention to make you feel that way and then please take a look at your own chest, I’m sure you’ll see two nipples and this will come as no surprise to you, so please, don’t let my nipples have you crying over spilled milk.
