Hey mama! I posted on my Instagram stories that I was making tofu and I got a lot of requests for recipes. I know tofu can be a tricky thing to make yourself, and to have it actually taste good sans slime.
The secret is to compress it between a towel and get some of that water out!
I love to eat tofu but one of my favorites is when I make tofu “bacon” so I figured I’d share that recipe with you because it’s such a crowd pleaser.
What you’ll need:
Extra firm tofu
Extra virgin olive oil
Bread (of your choice, I just used sprouted bread)
Directions for the tofu:
Slice the tofu into thin slices as seen below.
Lay tofu flat on dish towel and then cover with the remaining portion of the towel. Place a pan on top of the covered tofu so that the water can absorb into the towel. The idea is to compress it out! See Below.
Let that tofu sit under the pan for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
After it’s been about an hour heat a frying pan with 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and toss in your tofu. I pour a little bit of BBQ sauce on each piece of tofu in the pan and spread it out so the whole piece of tofu is covered with BBQ sauce.
Let each side of tofu fry for 5-7 minutes. Once you flip the tofu add more BBQ sauce to each piece in the pan. The tofu should look browned as seen in the photo below.
I simply toast my sprouted bread, slice tomato, avocado, and add spinach leaves to make my sandwich!
