Ok so today I am super excited to share Basic Invite baby shower invitations with you guys! As we all know our baby shower invitations are just as important as our actual shower, so when I discovered Basic Invite I was over the moon excited.
Basic Invite is so cool because unlike a lot of online invitation or card making companies Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers the ability to order a printed sample of their actual invitation so they can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before they ever have to place their final order.
I personally got the chance to do this with these baby shower invitation samples. Which by the way I had so much fun mocking up a baby shower invitation and dropping a few *cough *cough hints to my husband LOL. I literally told him “if we start trying now, then we could actually use the date on one of these invitations in November for a baby shower”... to say he nervously laughed it off is an understatement! A girl can try, right?!
Basic Invite does more than baby shower invitations as well, they do stationary, weddings, Christmas cards, you name it they can do it and customize it.
One feature I thought was genius is that they offer an address capturing service that allows customers to simply share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other form of social media to request their friends and family’s addresses which will be stored in the customer’s account and can then be selected during the design process. Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all Christmas card orders. I mean how cool is that? It makes the whole process of texting your mother in-law for her sister’s address all that less awkward.
With over 40 different colors for just their envelopes alone really makes them stand out as a company that truly cares about making your special memories unforgettable.
All of their envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed. Another win win because no one likes the taste of envelope seal in their mouth!
Ok now let’s get to the fun stuff, the BABY SHOWER INVITATIONS!!
I had so much fun choosing and customizing three different baby shower invitations.
First up I chose the sweetest invitation with a little dear which I thought was just darling for a baby shower invite. I was able to customize the back of the card to have polka dots and I literally think it’s the sweetest thing ever.
Next up I chose the camo baby shower invitations which will more than likely be my fate with another boy. I loved that with this camo invite I was able to customize the colors so I could stick with a black and white theme but still have it be the camouflage print.
For my last one I chose a classic plaid baby shower invitations, ya know like a little hipster lumberjack vibe. This was a fun one to design because instead of the focus being on my name in big bold print I added “The Schwartz Family is having a BOY” which I think is a cool way to make it about the family on the invitation.
When you are in the process of designing your baby shower invitation they have this super cool foil feature. Foil cards are available in gold, silver, and rose gold. Customers can choose flat or raised foil on all of Basic Invite’s foil designs. I think this just adds a beautiful finishing touch to the design.
So long are the days where you spend hours on a website feeling restricted by their designs and hitting “purchase” and just praying when you get 100 invitations in the mail they look ok.
Basic Invite allows you the creative freedom to design your special moment and you can get an actual invitation sample mailed to you before you have to purchase anything. I will 100% be using them for my future card and invitation purchases.
I am excited to share that right now Basic Invite is offering 15% off with coupon code: 15FF51
Happy card making, friends!
In an effort to up my health and wellness game in 2019 (read more on that here) I decided it was finally time I took a hard look at all of the cleaning products in our house.
I have been using the Thieves cleaner from Young Living and for the past year I have been using a combo of vinegar, distilled water and lemon essential oil as a multipurpose cleaner. I like both of them very much.
Unfortunately I have a little secret and it’s called lavender scented Pine-Sol and I enjoyed it. When Jack was a baby I only allowed us to mop the floor with water and vinegar, and I am not sure why I went back to allowing the purchasing of Pine-Sol to happen now that Jack is walking.
Anything with the word “fragrance” in the ingredient list is a no-go in our home. Fragrance is a term the FDA does not regulate so a company can use any synthetic chemical and hide it under the word fragrance.
So I pulled every “cleaner” out of the cabinets and threw them away. See below!
I am an advocate for toxin-free living but I am also human and I am trying to DO better for myself and my family.
Did you know a new study out today reveals that numerous popular cleaner brands, including Glade, Clorox, Pine Sol, and the ostensibly eco-friendly Simple Green, contain chemicals that are known to cause hormone disruption, pregnancy complications, birth defects, and cancer, and can aggravate allergies. (link here)
Needless to say I have converted our house to a toxin free, chemical free home.
I wanted to take this opportunity to challenge you to do the same and I will send you a gift! Yes, you read that right. I am so committed to people changing their health that if you round up all of your chemical and “fragrance” filled products and replace them with a DIY cleaner or a safe store bought brand, I will send you a product from my TMM Beauty line. All you have to do is share a video or a picture of you throwing away your old toxic cleaners and tag me also using the #tmmhealthandwellnesschallenge . My Instagram @themodernmamahood and I will send you something! This will go until the end of January!!! xox
Clean Brands I love:
-Young Living Thieves cleaner (it smells like Christmas) I put it in a glass bottle from amazon, linked here.- -OnGuard Cleaner
-Better Life all purpose cleaner Found at your local healthy grocery store or Amazon!
-16oz glass bottle fill ¾ of the way with white vinegar the rest with distilled water and add 15 drops of lemon essential oil (optional also add 10 drops melaleuca essential oil)
GLASS BOTTLES I USE FROM AMAZON
I hope this was helpful and relatable and you can find yourself making the switch!!
YAY! I am so excited to share this gift guide with you! I have compiled some personal favorites and some must have items for this family gift guide that I know you’ll love.
There is something on this gift guide for the man in your life and the toddler you hold near and dear. PLUS there are lots of goodies for you to casually drop hints about to your spouse…like cough cough I need to drink my coffee out of this beautiful mug from Anthropologie (which has all different states). Or number TWO is the COMFIEST blanket from Martha Stewart’s collection that is normally $120 but on sale for $41 with code FRIEND… Literally this blanket will change your life. AND the PJ’s for mama from Target are 40% off right now only $12!!
Whether your man loves music or wood working there is something for him on this guide.
I love all of these gifts for so many reasons I can’t wait to see what you snag!
So as any normal person would be doing this time of year, I’ve been browsing Pinterest looking for cute wrapping ideas. I think the way your presents are wrapped is just as important as how your tree is decorated, ya know??
Last year we went with a basic black and green plaid wrapping paper which looked pretty against our white and black tree skirt. This year we have a dark green tree skirt from the Hearth and Hand with Magnolia collection at Target so I wanted something very basic.
When I came across the brown wrapping paper post on Pinterest I knew this was it! It’s clean and simple, but looks festive and like gift wrapping.
This is seriously such a CHEAP (in a good way) option. You can totally get creative and add bells or different size ribbon, or even a pinecone!
What I bought was from Target and Michaels Linked below:
(Everything linked above is on MAJOR sale this week for Cyber Monday so don’t miss it!!xo)
I trimmed off small branches from my own Christmas tree for the greenery you see on the present.
All in all it was under $12 for all of the supplies!! That wraps a lot of presents.
I mean, can you picture yourself showing up to your friend’s holiday party with a chic wrapped Christmas present like this? It’s basically a gift in itself LOL.
Let’s get into it!
All I did was wrap the gift in the brown wrapping paper and then I tied the red and white twine around it. If you notice I took it up high and tied my bow off towards the left side of the gift, it’s not smack dab in the middle. You can go with whatever tie off you want.
I then simply chose a stamp and pressed it down onto my already wrapped gift. I added in my clipped greenery and I was done! It was seriously so simple and so fun!
Here is my PINsperation for this exact wrapping job.

Hey mama, I am so excited to share about our trip to Austin with you. Let me first set the stage for you, we almost missed our flight, Jack napped only 30 minutes each day of the trip, Jack refused to poop for almost 3 days, I got bit up by mosquitos, we ended up at Walmart buying a Mickey Mouse potty, and I ate my weight in vegan food.
With that quick recap let me tell you, it was a blast! Seeing a city in 2 days, yes I said 2 days (we bought plane tickets after wine on a whim), with a toddler was interesting. Austin is a driving city for sure so we spent a good amount of time in the car looking at places, seeing neighborhoods, and driving to every vegan restaurant in town. Jack was not a fan of this, which is understandable but when your husband is lost, and you have to pee and your child is screaming it feels like a full blown psychotic episode.
I know you can feel my pain here. To sweeten the deal Jack was complaining that his tummy hurt and we were stopping and taking turns running him into public restrooms to beg, not try, we were begging him to poop which only backfired. Stefan and I spent more time squatting down in public restrooms then we care to ever experience again.
But, we had a blast despite the craziness of two year old emotions and patience of 31 yr old parents.
Vegan food was the theme of the trip. Austin is loaded with tons of vegan restaurants. As soon as we landed we went straight to Arlo’s food truck. I ordered a “burger” and Stefan got the jerk “chicken” sandwich, and holy crap it was the best I’ve ever had!
We then got vegan ice cream for Jack at Yummi Joy and headed to the very first Whole Foods and stocked up on snacks for Jack. I mean this is the life this kids lives, ice cream and Whole Foods. My dad took me to McDonalds when I was his age…
We knew in our heart we had to make this trip about Jack as well so we took him to the Thinkery which is the most amazing place for children and we just let him go nuts for over an hour. They have tons of different activities and learning experiences to do, plus a huge play place outside.
Stefan and I enjoyed Texas brewed beer because let's just say their Chardonnay game was not on point.
We also ate lunch at a vegan restaurant called Counter Culture and it was so effing good! I got a tuna salad sandwich made from chickpeas and it was amazing. I also discovered lavender lemonade mimosas that come in a huge glass, and that mosquitos will eat me alive.
I literally got bit 12 times on one leg/foot throughout the course of the day easily 10 bites on the other leg. This I was not prepared for with my oils FML.
We also discovered a place called Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden which is a coffee house that serves beer and wine and they have a chicken coup outside with a garden and a ton of food trucks. It was the most charming way to spend our evening after dinner at Bouldin Creek Cafe. I loved it because there were tons of families all there on a Friday night having fun. It felt super welcoming.
We took Jack to ride the little train through Zilker park and saw lots of people out on the Colorado river paddle boarding and canoeing. It was beautiful and super green!
We ended our trip with a coffee pitstop at an outside trailer kinda vibe called Picnik which was so freaking cute and so Instagrammy but it was pouring like a mother and Jack was running away any chance he got. Stress 100%= no photo lol.
It was a great 2 days and it was exciting being in a new city that was charged with energy and creativity.
Did you travel any place this Summer?

Hey Mama today I am breaking down my full review of the DockATot Grand. I have received a lot of DMs and texts from friends about it. I think because Jack just turned 2 people were asking me what the heck does he do with it? Well, he absolutely loves it!!
Initially I thought Jack may be interested in it for a few minutes and be over it ,but he uses it all the time.
We have been using the DockATot Grand for lounging in the house, naps in our bed, and we just took it on vacation with us to our 1 bedroom condo. This DockATot was so helpful when we had to put Jack down in our bed to go to sleep. Jack is still sleeping in a crib (he hasn’t figured out how to get out yet) so I was a little nervous that on vacation putting him to sleep in our bed in his DockATot would be a disaster, and it wasn’t.
Jack went right to sleep and stayed snuggled up in the DockATot all night. Stefan and I slept on both sides of him and we had a huge bed and were able to sleep comfortably without a toddler rolling around jabbing us in the middle of the night, if you know, you know!
We are going on vacation again in August and we will definitely be bringing this DockATot with us for him to sleep in.
I also use it for nap time when Jack naps in our bed like the spoiled prince he is. I like that I can lay him in the DockATot and not worry about him rolling off the bed onto the floor. Which brings me to my next point of transitioning him soon to a toddler bed. This DockATot Grand is going to be so helpful for him transitioning out of his crib into his big boy bed!
Lastly we’ve been using the DockATot for lounging when he watches his Baby Einstein shows or when I want him to settle down I’ll lay it out on the floor for him with his blanky and he loves just chillin in there.
Besides being fabulous and looking cute because let’s be real I didn’t choose the black and white marble print for nothing… The DockATot has really great features:
-Made in Europe, designed in Sweden.
- Tested for breathability
- OEKO-TEX certified
- All natural, 100% cotton
What more could a mom ask for? I want something that is cute, functional, and all natural and the DockATot Grand really was all of those things.
P-O-T-T-Y Training and all it’s glory and all it’s misery, the post is finally here. Let me first start by thanking Jamie Glowacki author of the book I followed “Oh Crap! Potty Training”. If there's a curse word in the title, I’m into it.
I picked up this book and read it all and then I picked my date and threw out diapers (some anyway, we’ll get to that). First and foremost I was ready, I was ready to be done with diapers and I was actually excited to help Jack tackle this new skill. I felt in my heart after reading this book that he too was ready.
I gave myself a week to process all the info from the book and to enjoy the diapered come and go as you please life, and then on a Monday when I could be home alone without my husband there, I took on potty training our 23 month old.
My first bit of advice if you’re a stay at home mom or a control freak like me, potty train alone. You ever here that saying “there’s too many cooks in the kitchen”, ya that will and did at times happen during potty training. I knew in my heart I needed to be alone with Jack to get this rolling. If you just lovey dovey your hubby so much you can’t wait to do this together, great, buy alcohol.
I really loved Jamie’s approach and her philosophy on potty training. She says in so many words that if your kid can put up a fight or throw and tantrum over something then he/she can be potty trained. This INSPIRED me and opened my eyes. As a first time mom you hear lot’s of “these are the signs your kids is ready to start potty training…”One of them being they can sing the ABC’s...this worried me because while Jack is starting to explode with language (a little late to the game), he’s not belting out the ABC’s. Pure crap, he potty trained fine, no songs required.
In the book Jamie lays out what she calls blocks which are your guide for progression in potty training your child.
Block ONE was naked from the waist down and that first day I went through a roll of paper towels, the second naked day was a little less.
Block TWO brought on clothes, pants that is or dresses or whatever, but I have a boy so we put on pants. We did two short trips out and I made sure to get a pee on the potty before we left.
Block THREE for us came at the fourth day of potty training and Jack did great. This is where you leave the house with pants on your child and stay out past 20 minutes. We did 1-2 hours and I brought my potty for him in the car incase.
Jack’s been potty trained/training for 2 weeks now going into the third week as I type this, and he’s been doing good with a few accidents here and there. But when I started crying or drinking wine at 3:30pm I was so thankful I had the book to reference about what could be going on.
Jamie does an incredible job at explaining every scenario and any question you may have she answers it in the book. I would highly recommend getting the book I’ve linked it here on Amazon.
This is not sponsored I just fell in love with this book.
Jack at the spunky age of 23 months has already figured out that he can stall at bedtime by saying he has to pee pee, but without fail he goes every time. I got annoyed with putting his nighttime diaper on after the SIXTH time he had to go “pee pee” before bed! So I said ok tonight you are going without a diaper, he was dry in the morning 3 nights in a row! But then the following 3 nights he woke up wet. So we are going to follow the book’s advice and do nighttime training next week when we are back from vacation.
Laundry is a bitch these days and if I had a dollar for everytime I said pee pee these past two weeks I’d be rich.
But it’s worth it, it really is. I love seeing the excitement on his face when he goes in his potty and can’t wait to show me.
I do also want to say one last thing in closing about commiting and sticking with it. No matter how frustrated you get don’t go back to diapers, the book is SO HELPFUL for everything. It’s not easy and there were times I called my husband crying from frustration but it’s worth it to stick to it.
It was also a really cool bonding experience with Jack that I got to experience and teach him this new skill. Sunday night before we started potty training my husband and I bought him an easel with a chalkboard on one side and a place to paint or color on the other. We wrote him a sweet note congratulating him on becoming a big boy today and set it up so he would see it first thing in the morning.
I am soooo happy to answer any questions you have about my experience and GO BUY THAT BOOK NOW!!!
Hey mama, I’m just coming to you from my couch with an ice pack on my neck. I’m so annoyed for like the 80th day in a row to have a sore neck, like really though whhhhyy? It’s so frustrating so any advice on what to do is welcome.
Anyway, I’m totally just typing every thought running through my head as I savor nap time so I can bring you this blog post. Let’s talk spouses shall we?
Do you appreciate your spouse? Like really appreciate them?
I honestly feel like (please don’t barf or unfollow me) I hit the spouse lottery Stefan is pretty close to perfect in the partner in life and dad category. Do I feel that way all the time and repay him with lots of adventurous sex? No.
When you have children or in my case one child, things change a little. Sleep is something you look back on as a distant memory, and sometimes patience wears thin sooner than one would hope.
I’ve been very very guilty of not appreciating my spouse as much as I should. It’s easy to have blinders on when your main focus becomes your child.
But I challenge all of us to start appreciating a little more, and not in the obvious “Thanks for providing and letting me stay home…”. No, I’m talking about letting them know they did a good job when they swaddled the baby, or they did a good job washing the kiddos hair. Even though you may be like me, a total control freak and feel that no one will do as good a job as you… still show them that you appreciate them.
I’ve found that when I start doing this it comes back to me. There’s a lot more positive encouraging statements being exchanged instead of bitching. Nobody loves a good bitchfest more than me but there’s nothing good that comes of it.
Having children puts a different vibe on a relationship and if we’re not careful to nurture it with kindness things can get real sour real fast.
I am no relationship expert ( like at all) but I have found through experience that our significant others want to know they’re doing a good job too.
These 3 things work best for me and may seem like no brainers.
If you have different ones please share!
1. Pick your battles:
This is a hard one to actually stick to but it’s so worth it in terms of the longevity of your relationship. Ask yourself “Is this really that important to argue over?”
2. Let them know they’re doing a great job/encouragement:
With the kids/baby. Who doesn’t like a little confidence boost!? Usually they will defer to us so when we get a chance to praise them it really means a lot.
3. Ask yourself is this about them or about me?
Maybe you’ve had a long day at home alone with a crazy toddler and your patience are gone, but you notice right before your spouse gets home they left a dirty sock out. Do you start a fight because they deserve it or is it you just feeling frustrated from the day? I know in my relationship this takes practice for me :)
I hope that was helpful and served as a pleasant reminder that appreciation goes both ways!
Till next time!!
I love doing these mommy and me shoots becasue they are able to capture such special moments that I will be able to look back on forever.
This year was a little different and Jack is almost 2 yrs old and running around like a crazy person. I'm sure you get where I'm going with this... I was super nervous about him being on his best behavior during the shoot, and he had a few mini meltdowns, he was a full diva LOL. I want to say this to you to bring you comfort and reassure you that if you're a mom to toddlers you will be FINE.
Working with Ernie and Fiona is unlike any other shoot I've done because they have 2 kids with one baby girl on the way, so they get it. If I'm being totally honest I was a little worried that they even got the shots they needed of Jack and I...but as you can see the pictures turned out gorgeous!! I literally can't stop looking at them and crying, I am that happy with them.
I love the way they captured Jack's playful spirit and the close loving bond we share. Great, I am tearing up typing this, but it's true they are masters at what they do!!
I know last year so many of you took advantage of the special offer they give to my friends and readers, and I loved seeing all of your beautiful photos. This year they are offering you the same exact deal which is insane!!! All you have to do is mention MODMOM in your inquiry on their website and you get a COMPLEMENTARY shoot including hair and makeup. You will also receive 10% off any print purchase you make.
It's soooo nice to get your hair and makeup done and be pampered while getting your photo taken. These photos I will look back on and cherish forever, and it doesn't hurt that they make you look and feel so beautiful.
